Monday, April 29~

RJ worked for a few hours in the morning at our Airbnb and then we drove 40 miles to Annapolis, Maryland in the afternoon.

Our Airbnb in Arlington.

Annapolis is a CUTE little city and the State House is situated in the middle of the State Circle with cute little shops, houses and restaurants surrounding it. You can see the Chesapeake Bay a couple blocks away and smell the ocean air.

The Old Treasury Building – Located on the State House grounds, this is the oldest public building in Annapolis. Built in 1735.

We walk in and there’s a sign that says:

I had forgotten my ID back at the Airbnb and RJ left his in the back case on the bike. I thought they weren’t going to let us through security without my ID and the afternoon trip would be for nothing. But then they said if RJ had his we would be ok. So RJ ran back out to the bike to get his ID.

This capitol is right up there as one the cutest capitol we have been to so far. It’s on the small side as far as capitol buildings go with beautiful grounds and full of rich history.

It is the oldest US capitol in legislative use today.

The dome is the largest and oldest wooden dome in the United States and built entirely without nails.

The Old Senate Chamber is set up how they thought it looked when General George Washington came before Congress to give his resignation speech as commander-in-chief from the army. This speech is known by many historians as the fourth most important document in American history after the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

The statue standing at top left is on the “Ladies Balcony.” Women were not allowed on the Senate floor.

This is the only state house to have served as the nation’s capitol. Congress met at the Maryland State House from November 26, 1783 to August 13, 1784.

The little rotunda, looking straight up to the top.

Old desk and chair from the Senate Chamber.

After exploring the capitol we walked around the corner  and got a lobster roll, a cup of clam chowder and a whoopie pie from a little shop right by the bay.

We found our coffee mug next door.

Leaving the store, I saw a lady with ice cream and another with a caramel apple so I had to go find the place. We ended up with the best chocolate covered, peanut covered caramel apple ever. Plus a couple pieces of candy, and the largest Reeses peanut butter cup ever.

Overly stuffed, we headed back to Arlington/D.C. to walk the National Mall. It was dusk by the time we parked and walked over. The monuments and memorials were so beautiful and grand.

It was getting late by the time we made our way around the monuments and our parking meter had expired so we hopped back on the bike and drove by the White House before we headed back to our Airbnb for the night.
