Alaska – Day 2 – Kelowna, British Columbia

This is the story of our journey from Culver, OR to Kelowna, BC on May 19th. We woke up with high hopes of getting an early start, then snoozed any chance of that happening down the drain. After an hour and a half of convincing ourselves that we’ll get up in the next 5 minutes, we finally got up to start our day. This was our first day camping in all of our new gear, and everything worked better than we hoped. We had everything packed within the hour and had time to make tea with our jetboil. Smashing success. We left around 10:30am which, believe it or not, is an improvement since yesterday, so we’ll take it! We made a quick stop at Taco Bell, mainly to stock up on Tbell hot sauce for our potato burritos we would be eating throughout our trip. (It may sound like something you would never try but Emmy thought the same thing until she ate one.) We were on the 97 for the rest...

Alaska – Day 1 – Culver, OR

*After a couple months of research, planning, and buying new gear and equipment we feel somewhat prepared to leave on a 5 week trip to Alaska. Here’s to hoping the bears stick to eating fish and not us.*   Friday, May 18, 2018: Emmy and I started on our new adventure to Alaska! I woke up early in the morning for a business meeting, and then finished up some work. Around 10am or so, we were ready to go, albeit some minor repacking to get everything to fit. We ended up leaving around 11am. Took the 99 to the 36 to the 299 then up to Klamath Falls, OR and took the 97 the rest of way. The ride up to Klamath Falls was great. It was fun seeing the north side of Mt. Lassen and then the east side of Mt. Shasta. That was a first for Em and I. We got lunch in Klamath Falls at a place called Chilitos Mexican Grill. We found it from Yelp, it’s basically like a Chipotle on steroids...
